Used as an oxidizer in some pyrotechnic compositions to produce red-colored flames, commonly in flares and signal devices. Acts as a flux in ceramic and glass manufacturing, lowering melting temperatures and improving thermal shock resistance. Employed in air treatment systems to absorb moisture due to its hygroscopic nature. Investigated for use in lithium-ion battery electrolytes to improve performance and cycle life. Also utilized in heat transfer systems and molten salt applications because of its relatively low melting point and good thermal stability at elevated temperatures.
