Used as a polymerization inhibitor in the production and storage of monomers such as acrylates and methacrylates, preventing premature curing. Commonly added to adhesives, coatings, and resins to extend shelf life. Also serves as an antioxidant in organic synthesis and industrial processes, protecting sensitive compounds from oxidation. Employed in photographic developers and as an intermediate in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and fragrances.
