Used as a precursor in organophosphorus chemistry, particularly in the synthesis of diphosphine ligands for transition metal catalysts. These ligands play a key role in homogeneous catalysis, including hydrogenation and hydroformylation reactions. Its reactive P–H and P–Cl bonds allow for further functionalization, enabling tailored ligand design. Also employed in the preparation of flame retardants and as a building block in materials science for creating phosphorus-containing polymers with thermal stability.
