Used as a coccidiostat in poultry feed to prevent coccidiosis, a parasitic disease affecting the intestinal tract. It promotes growth and improves feed efficiency in livestock, particularly in cattle and poultry. Also employed in veterinary medicine to control infections caused by protozoa. Its ionophore properties allow it to transport ions across cell membranes, disrupting the metabolism of susceptible organisms. Not approved for use in humans.
