Used in leather tanning to stabilize collagen fibers, making hides resistant to heat, bacteria, and decay. Provides excellent thermal stability and durability to finished leather. Also employed in textile mordanting to improve dye fastness on fabrics. Serves as a chromium source in industrial catalysts and in the production of other chromium compounds. Occasionally used in water treatment for precipitation of impurities.
