Valdecoxib is a selective COX-2 inhibitor primarily used for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. It was prescribed to manage pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute pain in adults. Due to its selectivity for COX-2, it was developed to reduce gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with non-selective NSAIDs. It was also used in the management of primary dysmenorrhea. However, its use has been discontinued in many countries due to increased cardiovascular risks associated with long-term use.
