“Closest hydrocarbon-emollient evidence: mineral oil, a related cosmetic hydrocarbon emollient, improves skin softness and barrier function and suppresses transepidermal water loss, supporting the occlusive/emollient rationale for isoeicosane-family materials.”
“Ingredient-family evidence: occlusive emollients such as mineral oil and petrolatum reduce water loss by forming a hydrophobic film, helping maintain hydration and smoothness; this supports claims for nonvolatile hydrocarbon emollients like isoeicosane only by functional analogy.”
Sethi A, Kaur T, Malhotra SK, Gambhir ML Moisturizers: The Slippery Road
“Moisturizer-class evidence: occlusive and emollient ingredients are used to reduce scaling, roughness, dryness, and irritation signs in inflammatory/dry-skin conditions; this supports the general skin-comfort benefit of hydrocarbon emollients, not a specific therapeutic effect of isoeicosane.”
