Potassium Thioglycolate is used in hair removal products where it reacts with the hair, causing it to break down and fall out.
Please study the instructions for use carefully before use.
1. Potassium thioglycolate has a natural odor. The finished product formula requires sufficient perfume to mask the odor.
2. Potassium thioglycolate can easily undergo oxidation. Please avoid heat over 40 degrees (recommended 30 degrees) and air.
3. Packaging of finished products after mixing should be in packaging that can protect the formula from contact with air, such as vacuum tubes.
4. The water used in mixing the formula containing Potassium thioglycolate must be of the highest purity because if there is a metal charge , Calcium thioglycolate will change color to purple.
5. Potassium thioglycolate can irritate the skin. Do not use more than the recommended level.
6. Suitable packaging materials: Ready-to-use formulas should be glass or ceramic. If plastic, only Polyethylene (PE) plastic should be used.
The formula should be formulated with ActiveProtec™ OX at 0.6% to help prevent discoloration of the formula.
Dilute Potassium thioglycolate solution 42% in water and add the alkalizing agent (potassium hydroxide and/or calcium hydroxide)
step by step, while keeping the temperature below 30 °C. Add this phase to the formulation below 30 °C and adjust pH to 12.4 with
potassium hydroxide. Homogenize with a triple roll mill.
Choice of alkalizing agent: calcium hydroxide is preferable to sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide because it is less irritating due
to its lower solubility and resulting buffer capacity. A saturated Ca(OH)2 solution is present at pH 12.4.
All used raw materials (emulsifiers, emollients, fragrances etc.) should be stable under alkaline conditions at pH 12 – 12.5.
Usage: For hair removal products, hair
Mixing method: Mix in water. Please study the usage details above.
Usage rate: 10-15%. The formula must have a pH range of 12-12.5. The FDA allows a maximum usage of 16.8% (or equal to 5% Thioglycolic acid).
Product Description: Liquid
Solubility: Soluble in water, ethanol.
Storage: Can be stored in a dry and cool place, away from sunlight, heat , air. The product has a shelf life of at least 2 years.
INCI Name : Water, Pot assium thioglycolate (70%)
