Antispasmodic active for relief of smooth-muscle spasms (GI/biliary/urinary); also a lab/industrial reagent and chemical intermediate.
Phloroglucinol dihydrate is an antispasmodic active used to relieve smooth-muscle spasms/cramps in the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, and urinary tract, and is sometimes used for dysmenorrhea-related cramps.
⚠️ For professional pharmaceutical compounding and manufacturing only. Not for direct consumer use.
In medical use, phloroglucinol acts as a smooth-muscle relaxant (spasmolytic), helping to moderate painful contractility without opioid or anticholinergic effects. It is commonly used in combination with analgesics in tablets, capsules, and injectable preparations where relief of spasm contributes to symptom control.
Outside of medicine, phloroglucinol is also used as a laboratory/industrial reagent and chemical intermediate, for example as a staining reagent for lignin in plant tissues and as a building block in organic synthesis.
