Used as an electrolyte additive in lithium-ion batteries to improve cycle life and thermal stability. Enhances the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer on the anode, which reduces electrolyte decomposition and increases battery safety. Particularly effective in high-voltage and high-temperature applications. Also investigated as a solvent or intermediate in specialty organic syntheses where fluorinated groups contribute to unique polarity and reactivity.
