Used as a plasticizer in polymer formulations to improve flexibility and workability of plastics, especially in cellulose-based materials. Acts as a solvent for resins and dyes in coatings and inks due to its moderate evaporation rate and good solvency. Employed in the synthesis of organic compounds as an esterification agent or intermediate. Also found in some fragrance formulations as a carrier or fixative because of its low volatility and pleasant ester-like odor. Occasionally used in specialty lubricants and corrosion inhibitors.
