Used in targeted cancer therapy, particularly for treating melanoma with BRAF V600E or V600K mutations. It works by inhibiting the overactive BRAF protein, which drives uncontrolled cell growth in certain cancers. Often combined with trametinib, a MEK inhibitor, to enhance effectiveness and reduce resistance. Also investigated for use in non-small cell lung cancer and other solid tumors with the same genetic mutations. Helps improve progression-free and overall survival in patients with advanced disease.
