Used in the treatment of metastatic melanoma and unresectable melanoma with BRAF V600E mutation. It is a targeted therapy that inhibits the activity of the mutant BRAF protein, which drives uncontrolled cell growth in certain cancers. Vemurafenib has shown significant improvement in progression-free and overall survival in patients with BRAF-positive melanoma. It is also being studied in other cancers with the same genetic mutation, such as non-small cell lung cancer and Erdheim-Chester disease. The drug helps shrink tumors and control disease progression in mutation-positive patients.
