Used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in fluorination reactions and transformations involving carbonyl compounds. Its strong Lewis acidic properties make it effective in promoting various C–C bond-forming reactions. Also applied in the preparation of fluorinated pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals due to its ability to stabilize reactive intermediates. Soluble in organic solvents, it is favored in homogeneous catalytic systems.
