Flexfilm FC-5012 ID Resin Gum (Trimethylsiloxysilicate/Dimethiconol Crosspolymer (and) Isododecane)
70% active silicone film former in isododecane for long-wear, water- and sebum-resistant color cosmetics, primers, and sunscreens. Best added to the silicone or compatible oil phase while controlling solvent loss.
Flexfilm FC-5012 (Trimethylsiloxysilicate/Dimethiconol Crosspolymer (and) Isododecane) is a 70% active silicone film-forming concentrate that combines MQ resin with silicone gum in a volatile isododecane carrier.
After application, the isododecane phase flashes off and leaves a continuous silicone-polymer film on the skin. In formulation practice this type of resin/gum system is used to improve transfer resistance, water repellency, sebum resistance, and wear time while keeping the film more flexible than a resin-only system.
This product is best treated as a formulator-facing performance resin rather than a skin active. Final performance depends strongly on volatile-carrier balance, pigment load, wax level, plasticizing emollients, and the rate of solvent loss during manufacturing and filling.
Product Description: Suitable for transfer-resistant complexion products, primers, long-wear lip products, brow and lash products, and water-resistant sunscreen systems where a flexible hydrophobic film is required.
- In liquid foundation, concealer, and primer systems, it helps anchor pigments and powders to the skin, reduces rub-off, and improves resistance to skin oil. Pairing with volatile silicone or isododecane carriers can improve spread, while silicone elastomer gels or light emollients can reduce a brittle or tight afterfeel.
- In mascara, eyeliner, and brow systems, it supports set, smudge resistance, and wash-off resistance. Balance the resin level with wax structure and plasticizing oils to avoid excessive stiffness, flaking, or difficult bulk fill caused by rapid solvent loss.
- In long-wear lip systems, it can improve transfer resistance and film integrity, but excessive use may increase shrink feel or tack after carrier evaporation. Evaluate gloss retention and comfort together with volatile solvent level and non-volatile emollient package.
- In sunscreen primers and water-resistant sun care, the film can improve continuity and persistence of the applied layer, but water-resistance and SPF claims must always be verified on the finished formula because carrier choice, resin loading, and dispersion quality materially affect deposition.
Usage: Film-forming additive for foundation, concealer, primer, mascara, eyeliner, brow products, long-wear lip products, and water-resistant sunscreen or hybrid skincare-makeup systems.
Mixing method:
- Add into the silicone phase or oil-compatible volatile phase. It is most comfortable to process after premixing with isododecane, volatile silicone, dimethicone, or other compatible oil-phase solvents to adjust handling viscosity.
- Do not add directly into the water phase. For emulsions, incorporate into the oil/silicone phase before emulsification or post-add during cool-down when the emulsion is already formed and the system can accept a volatile silicone resin concentrate.
- Keep temperature as low as practical and preferably below 45°C during late processing. Prolonged open heating, aggressive vacuum, and unnecessary high shear can strip isododecane, increase viscosity prematurely, and shift the final solids level.
- Final pH in most finished systems is typically around pH 4-8. The resin itself is not water-soluble, so pH sensitivity is usually less critical than phase placement, solvent compatibility, and evaporation control.
Usage rate: 1-20%
Use 1-20% of this 70% active solution (delivers about 0.7-14% film-forming solids). Typical starting points: about 3-8% in long-wear foundation or primer, 5-12% in brow/liner/mascara systems, and 8-20% in transfer-resistant lip or strongly water-resistant anhydrous systems.
Product characteristics: Light yellow transparent viscous liquid.
Solubility: Insoluble in water. Compatible with isododecane, many silicone fluids, and selected oil-phase solvents; evaluate compatibility before adding into high-water or highly polar systems.
Storage: Store tightly closed at room temperature, minimize prolonged exposure to heat and open-air processing, and keep containers well sealed to limit volatile-carrier loss.
