Used primarily as a lubricant additive, especially in extreme pressure (EP) and anti-wear formulations. It enhances the performance of industrial oils, greases, and metalworking fluids by forming a protective layer on metal surfaces, reducing friction and preventing wear under high-load conditions. It decomposes at elevated temperatures to release sulfur, which reacts with metal surfaces to form sulfides that prevent scoring and seizure. Commonly found in gear oils, compressor lubricants, and cutting fluids where thermal stability and long-lasting protection are required. Also used in some synthetic lubricants for automotive and aerospace applications due to its effectiveness in a wide temperature range.
