Aqua-Xylityl™ (Xylitylglucoside (and) Anhydroxylitol (and) Xylitol)
Aqua-Xylityl (Xylitylglucoside (and) Anhydroxylitol (and) Xylitol) is a preservative-free liquid moisturizing complex based on xylitylglucoside, anhydroxylitol, and xylitol in water. It is designed for water-based skin, scalp, hair, and cleansing formulas that need stronger hydration support than a simple humectant alone.
The hydration concept of this complex focuses on improving water circulation and water reserves through the upper skin layers while supporting hyaluronic-acid-related hydration. In practical use, Aqua-Xylityl helps reduce visible dehydration, support the skin barrier by limiting water loss, and improve softness and smoothness over continued use.
Aqua-Xylityl is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid complex with an opalescent to limpid appearance, a 5% pH of 5.5-7.5, water content around 15-17%, hydroxyl value 1100-1300 mg KOH/g, xylitylglucoside 35-50%, anhydroxylitol 24-34%, and xylitol 5-15%. This profile makes it easy to incorporate into gels, emulsions, toners, masks, shampoos, and other aqueous systems without special solvent handling.
Product Description: Aqua-Xylityl is used when a formula needs more than immediate surface humectancy. The xylitylglucoside / anhydroxylitol / xylitol complex is chosen to support water management in the stratum corneum, reinforce the synthesis of essential lipids and proteins involved in corneum organization, and help maintain smoother, softer-feeling skin with more regular desquamation. This makes it a strong fit for dry-skin care, barrier-support products, after-cleansing care, scalp hydration, and mild cleansing systems that want a more comfortable after-feel.
| Benefit area | What Aqua-Xylityl helps support | Where it fits well |
|---|---|---|
| 3D hydration | Supports water circulation and water reserves in the upper skin layers, with a hydration story linked to hyaluronic-acid support. | Serums, toners, gels, masks, and daily moisturizers. |
| Barrier care | Helps limit water loss, supports skin comfort, and improves the feel of dehydrated or rough skin over continued use. | Barrier-support creams, post-cleansing care, dry-skin products, and scalp-care formulas. |
| Hair and foaming systems | Supports hair moisturization and can improve the sensory profile of surfactant-based formulas. | Shampoos, conditioners, facial cleansers, and gentle body washes. |
Because Aqua-Xylityl is supplied as a water-based complex, it is straightforward to add into finished systems. It is especially useful when the formula needs both immediate moisturization and a stronger long-term hydration and barrier-care profile without relying on an oil-phase active.
Usage: Serums, lotions, creams, toners, clear gels, masks, shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments, facial cleansers, and other water-based moisturizing systems.
Mixing method:
- Add during cool-down or in the late water phase. A practical compatibility window is about pH 3-8, and prolonged unnecessary heat should be avoided after addition.
- Pre-dilution is usually not required. It can be added directly to the aqueous phase, aqueous gel base, or after emulsification once the main structure of the formula is already in place.
- In shampoo or cleanser systems, add after the main surfactants are dissolved, then re-check viscosity and foam character because polyol-rich hydration actives can slightly shift rheology and sensory profile.
Usage rate: 1.5-5%
A practical starting point is around 2-3% for leave-on hydration and barrier-support formulas, or 3-5% when stronger moisturization is needed in skin, scalp, or surfactant-based systems.
Product characteristics: Opalescent to clear liquid.
Solubility: Soluble in water and compatible with glycols. Best suited to aqueous gels, emulsions, toners, and surfactant systems; not intended as an oil-phase active.
Storage: Store at room temperature with the container tightly closed. Protect from prolonged heat and contamination during handling.
