Product Description:
Fenhexamid is primarily used as a fungicide in agriculture, especially in the control of Botrytis cinerea, commonly known as gray mold. It is highly effective in protecting fruits, vegetables, and ornamental crops from fungal infections. It is widely applied in vineyards to prevent bunch rot in grapes, both in pre-harvest field applications and post-harvest storage treatments.
The compound works by inhibiting fungal sterol biosynthesis, specifically targeting the 3-ketoreductase enzyme, which disrupts cell membrane formation in sensitive fungi. Due to its specific mode of action, it shows strong activity against resistant strains of Botrytis that may not respond to other fungicide classes.
Fenhexamid is often used in integrated pest management (IPM) programs because of its favorable environmental profile and low toxicity to beneficial insects and mammals. It is suitable for use in both conventional and protected cultivation systems, including greenhouses. Its systemic and translaminar properties allow it to move within plant tissues, providing protective and curative effects.
Regular use is recommended in rotation with other fungicides to minimize the risk of resistance development. It is especially valuable during flowering and fruit development stages when crops are most vulnerable to Botrytis infection.
