Product Description:
Pirimicarb is widely used as a selective systemic insecticide, primarily targeting aphids in a variety of agricultural crops. It is especially effective in controlling aphid populations on cereals, vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants. One of its key advantages is its selective toxicity—highly effective against aphids while being less harmful to beneficial insects such as ladybugs and parasitic wasps, making it suitable for integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
The solution formulation allows for easy mixing and application through foliar spraying. It is absorbed rapidly by plant leaves and translocated within the plant, providing protection against aphids that feed on sap. Pirimicarb acts by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme essential for nerve function in insects, leading to paralysis and death.
Due to its systemic action and selective mode, it is often used when preserving natural predators is important. It degrades relatively quickly in the environment, reducing the risk of long-term residue buildup. However, care is needed to avoid repeated use to minimize the development of resistance in aphid populations.
