Product Description:
Used primarily as an antifungal agent in the treatment of fungal infections, especially those caused by Candida and Aspergillus species. It functions by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, through the blockade of lanosterol 14α-demethylase, an enzyme dependent on cytochrome P450. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Due to its broad-spectrum activity and favorable pharmacokinetic profile, it is administered orally or intravenously in systemic fungal infections, including invasive candidiasis and aspergillosis. It is particularly valuable in immunocompromised patients, such as those undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplantation, where fungal infections pose a significant risk.
