This allows eye care professionals to better examine the retina and other internal structures of the eye. It is commonly applied as eye drops before diagnostic procedures such as fundus examination, refraction testing, and intraocular pressure measurement. The effect is rapid in onset, typically within 20 to 30 minutes, and lasts for several hours. Due to its short duration of action, it is preferred in outpatient settings where prolonged pupil dilation is not desired.
