description Product Description
Used primarily in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, this compound functions as an oral hypoglycemic agent by stimulating insulin release from the pancreas. It belongs to the sulfonylurea class and enhances insulin secretion by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels in pancreatic beta cells. It is typically prescribed when blood glucose levels cannot be controlled by diet alone. Due to its relatively short duration of action, it is often taken one to three times daily. It may also be used off-label in certain cases of neonatal diabetes caused by specific genetic mutations. Caution is required in patients with hepatic or renal impairment due to risk of prolonged hypoglycemia.
