Used primarily in the management of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. It helps control elevated parathyroid hormone levels by increasing the sensitivity of calcium-sensing receptors in the parathyroid gland. Also employed in the treatment of hypercalcemia in patients with parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism when surgery is not an option.
