Used to treat acute migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and reducing substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triptans, which are selective serotonin receptor agonists. Zolmitriptan is most effective when taken at the first sign of a migraine and is not intended for the prevention of migraines or for use in hemiplegic or basilar migraines. Available in oral tablet, orally disintegrating tablet, and nasal spray forms for rapid absorption.
