Used as an organophosphorus extractant in nuclear fuel reprocessing, particularly for the separation of uranium and plutonium from spent nuclear fuel. It effectively complexes with actinide ions in solvent extraction processes, offering high selectivity and efficiency in liquid-liquid extraction systems. Its stability under strong radiation and acidic conditions makes it suitable for use in advanced reprocessing technologies such as the TRUEX (Transuranium Extraction) process. Also investigated for recovery of heavy metals in industrial waste streams due to its strong chelating properties.
