Used as a plasticizer in polymers to improve flexibility and workability, especially in cellulose-based plastics and synthetic rubber. Enhances low-temperature performance and elongation properties. Also serves as an intermediate in organic synthesis and as a solvent or emollient in some coatings and lubricants. Found in some fragrance formulations due to its mild ester odor.
