Hydrolyzed Plant Keratin (Plant-Based Keratin, Liquid)

Plant-based keratin (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) for hair/skin; film-forming, conditioning, hydration. Use 0.5–5% (typ. 2–3%); add below 40°C; water-soluble.

Hydrolyzed Plant Keratin (Plant-Based Keratin, Liquid) is a plant-derived hydrolyzed protein designed to condition and reinforce hair fibers and support skin moisturization and feel.

Studies on hydrolyzed plant proteins (e.g., pea/wheat) report improved hair feel, hydration, combing and reduced breakage via film-forming peptides that bind to the fiber surface and low–mid molecular-weight fractions that can penetrate the cuticle.

Strength & breakage resistance (mechanism by peptide size)
Peer-reviewed work on hydrolyzed proteins in textured hair shows low–mid molecular-weight peptides penetrate into the cortex, while high-MW peptides adsorb at the surface; mid/high MW fractions increase Young’s modulus and reduce breakage across humidities—explaining why hydrolysates can both “bulk” and fortify hair.

Moisture retention / hydration
In a small in-vivo study, a 5% hydrolyzed pea protein leave-in increased hair hydration (comparable to a 5% wheat hydrolysate control). Film-forming hydrolyzed proteins help slow water loss from the fiber surface, improving pliability.

General support for hydrolyzed proteins on tensile strength & resilience
Recent scientific reviews summarize that hydrolyzed protein films and penetrating peptides improve hair tensile properties and manageability and may offer some protection against environmental stress (e.g., UV) by forming a surface layer. (These reviews focus on keratin/wheat data; the mechanism is applicable to pea-derived hydrolysates.)

Water‑soluble peptides; ideal for leave‑in and rinse‑off hair care as well as skin lotions/creams. Heat‑sensitive — add below 40°C. Performs best at pH 4–7.

Usage: Hair care (shampoo, conditioner, mask, leave‑in), styling products; skin care (lotions, creams, serums, hand creams).

How to mix:

- Add into water phase at room temperature or at cool‑down.

- For emulsions, add after emulsification once the batch is below 40°C.

- Avoid vigorous mixing to minimize foaming; maintain formula pH 4–7.

Usage rate: 0.5–5% (typical 2–3%).

Product Description: Clear to pale yellow liquid; mild characteristic odor.

Solubility: Water‑soluble; miscible with glycerin and propylene glycol.

Storage: Tightly closed at cool room temperature (15–25°C), away from light; do not freeze.
