Blocks the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), preventing tumor blood vessel formation and cutting off nutrient supply to cancer cells. Employed in targeted cancer therapies, especially in colorectal, lung, and renal cell carcinomas. Enhances the efficacy of chemotherapy and radiation by normalizing tumor vasculature. Also investigated for use in age-related macular degeneration and other conditions involving abnormal blood vessel growth.
