Product Description:
Used primarily in the production of felt hats, where it hardens animal fur during the felting process. This application has declined significantly due to health and environmental concerns. Also employed in some chemical synthesis processes as a catalyst or reagent, particularly in mercury-based reactions. Historically used in the extraction of silver and gold from ores, though this practice is now largely obsolete. Its use is highly restricted today because of the toxicity of mercury and the risk of environmental contamination.
