Used as a corrosion inhibitor in cooling water systems and industrial recirculating water to protect metal surfaces, especially ferrous metals. Acts as an oxidizing agent in chemical synthesis and is employed in the production of other chromium compounds. Applied in surface treatment processes such as passivation and metal finishing. Also utilized in the tanning of leather to improve durability and resistance to microbial attack.
