Used as a fluorescent chemosensor for detecting metal ions, particularly aluminum and zinc, in environmental and biological samples. Exhibits strong selectivity and sensitivity due to chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) effect upon binding with specific metal ions. Applied in imaging within living cells, offering low cytotoxicity and good membrane permeability. Also investigated for its nonlinear optical properties in material science. Shows potential in developing optical sensors and molecular probes for analytical applications.
