Oil Stick 2046 (e.q. Gelatinization Agent AJK-OD 2046)
Oil Stick 2046 is a premixed oil-phase gelling agent designed for polar oil systems, especially octyldodecanol. After melting and cooling, it builds a microscopic fibrous network that can turn fluid oils into structured oil gels ranging from soft jellies to firm stick structures.
This ready-to-melt premix gives formulators the oil-gel performance of glutamide-type gellants in a more convenient format. It helps build viscosity, body, pay-off control, and stick strength while keeping more of the original sensory profile of the selected oil compared with many wax-heavy structures.
Product Highlights
- Premixed oil gellant for anhydrous gels, sticks, balms, and structured oil systems
- Especially useful with polar emollients such as octyldodecanol
- Builds textures from soft oil jelly to firm stick depending on oil type and use level
- Helps improve body and handling in viscous oils such as polyisobutene or dimer acid esters at low levels
- Re-melts around 100 °C, useful for high-structure stick systems that need elevated-temperature processing
Formulation Guidance
Oil Stick 2046 must be fully melted first, then combined with the remaining oil-phase ingredients while the batch is still fluid. As the formula cools, the premix forms a fine fibrous network inside the oil phase and creates the final oil-gel structure.
Hardness, clarity, pay-off, and heat stability depend strongly on the oil polarity, total use level, cooling profile, and any other structuring materials in the formula. Test final hardness and appearance in the target formula before production.
Typical Use Cases
- Silicones, mineral oils, triglycerides, and polar emollients: 1-20% to build soft gels through hard stick structures
- Polyisobutene and dimer acid ester systems: 1-2% to raise viscosity, improve body, and make the formula easier to handle
- High-temperature stick processing: fully melt the premix first, then allow the structure to set during cooling
Applications
Use in stick antiperspirants and deodorants, lip gloss, lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, anhydrous or cream foundation, viscous body oils, oil gels, skin creams, hair gels, hair waxes, hair creams, and sun care gels or creams.
How to Mix
- Heat Oil Stick 2046 until fully melted before combining with the main oil phase.
- Add the remaining oil-phase ingredients while the batch is still fluid, typically around 40-80 °C, with steady stirring.
- Allow the system to cool and stand at room temperature for several hours so the fibrous oil-gel network can finish setting.
Use Level
Recommended use range: 1-20% depending on the target hardness and oil system. Lower levels around 1-2% are often enough when the goal is mainly viscosity build in already-viscous oils.
