PreserveGuard™ PEG is a broad-spectrum cosmetic preservative blend combining 90% Phenoxyethanol and 10% Triethylene Glycol, designed to provide robust antimicrobial protection for personal care formulations.

Phenoxyethanol serves as the primary antimicrobial active, demonstrating excellent broad-spectrum efficacy with particular strength against Gram-negative bacteria. It maintains stability and activity across a wide pH range (3-10), making it versatile for various cosmetic applications. The minimum inhibitory concentrations are: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0.32-0.40%), Staphylococcus aureus (0.85%), and Candida albicans (0.54%). While effective against bacteria and yeasts, molds typically show the highest resistance, requiring careful formulation consideration.

Triethylene Glycol acts as a co-solvent and performance booster, lowering surface tension and enhancing phenoxyethanol's availability at microbial membranes. This synergistic combination allows for effective preservation at lower use levels (0.6-1.0% of the blend) compared to phenoxyethanol alone. In emulsion systems, the free phenoxyethanol concentration in the water phase determines actual antimicrobial efficacy, with Aspergillus brasiliensis typically being the most resistant challenge organism.

Usage: Suitable for all cosmetic and personal care products including creams, lotions, serums, shampoos, conditioners, cleansers, makeup products, and sun care formulations. Ideal for both leave-on and rinse-off applications.

How to mix:

- Add during the cool-down phase below 40°C to prevent evaporation

- For emulsions: incorporate into the water phase after emulsification

- Can be pre-dissolved in glycols or compatible solvents for easier dispersion

- Avoid high temperatures and prolonged heating which may reduce efficacy
