description Product Description
Fosfluconazole is primarily used as a prodrug of fluconazole in the treatment of fungal infections. It is designed to improve solubility and enable intravenous administration, especially in patients who cannot take oral medication. Once administered, it is rapidly converted in the body to fluconazole, which exerts antifungal activity by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes.
It is commonly used in clinical settings to manage systemic candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, and other severe fungal infections, particularly in immunocompromised patients such as those with HIV/AIDS or those undergoing chemotherapy. Its intravenous formulation allows for quick attainment of therapeutic plasma levels, making it suitable for acute and critical care situations. Fosfluconazole is also used for prophylaxis against fungal infections in high-risk patients undergoing major surgeries or intensive care.
