Used intravenously to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with highly emetogenic chemotherapy, including cisplatin-based treatments. It is also effective in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting. As a prodrug of aprepitant, it is rapidly converted in the body to the active form, which blocks the substance P/neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor in the central nervous system. This action enhances the effectiveness of other antiemetics like 5-HT3 receptor antagonists and corticosteroids when used in combination regimens. Commonly administered as a single dose before chemotherapy initiation.
