Used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in adults. It helps increase fluid secretion in the intestines, which promotes bowel movements and improves stool consistency. Often prescribed when other laxatives are ineffective. Also used off-label for opioid-induced constipation due to its ability to stimulate intestinal motility without being a stimulant laxative.
