Used primarily as a refrigerant in specialized cooling systems, particularly in older industrial and commercial refrigeration units. It has also found use in some aerosol propellant applications and as a foam-blowing agent in the production of insulating foams. Due to its ozone-depleting properties, its use has been largely phased out under international environmental agreements and replaced with more environmentally friendly alternatives. Limited to specific niche applications where no suitable substitute is available.
