Used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in carbon–carbon bond-forming reactions. It facilitates selective transformations under mild conditions, making it valuable in pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing. Also investigated for use in photoredox catalysis due to its ability to absorb visible light and promote electron transfer reactions. Its iodide ligands can be readily exchanged, allowing tuning of reactivity for specific industrial processes.
