Used primarily to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men, helping to increase bone mass and reduce the risk of fractures, particularly in the spine and hip. Also prescribed for the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone. Works by inhibiting bone resorption through suppression of osteoclast activity, thereby maintaining bone strength and integrity. Typically taken orally on a daily or weekly basis, it is most effective when combined with adequate calcium and vitamin D intake.
