Rezafungin is used for the treatment of adult patients with candidemia and invasive candidiasis, fungal infections caused by Candida species. It offers a prolonged half-life compared to other echinocandins, allowing for once-weekly dosing, which supports outpatient treatment and reduces hospital burden. Its stability and sustained antifungal activity make it suitable for step-down therapy following initial critical care. Rezafungin is also being studied for prophylactic use in high-risk patients, such as those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, to prevent invasive fungal infections. Its targeted mechanism inhibits cell wall synthesis in susceptible fungi, providing efficacy with a favorable safety profile.
