Used primarily in the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men to reduce the risk of fractures. It helps increase bone mass by inhibiting bone resorption through suppression of osteoclast activity. Also used in the management of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone. Administered orally or via intravenous route depending on the condition, it is especially beneficial for patients who cannot tolerate other bisphosphonates.
