Used primarily in industrial applications as a heat transfer fluid and dielectric fluid in electrical equipment due to its thermal stability and non-flammability. Also found in some older transformer and capacitor systems. Its use has been largely discontinued because of environmental persistence, bioaccumulation concerns, and toxicity. Was occasionally used in hydraulic fluids and plasticizers before regulations restricted its application. Not suitable for consumer products due to health and environmental risks.
