Used in oligonucleotide synthesis as a protected deoxycytidine phosphoramidite. The trifluoroacetyl (TFA) group protects the exocyclic amine during solid-phase synthesis, preventing side reactions. After incorporation into the growing DNA chain, the TFA group is removed under mild basic conditions, allowing for efficient and selective coupling in automated DNA synthesis.
