It was also prescribed for acute pain relief, including post-surgical dental pain. As a selective COX-2 inhibitor, it offered anti-inflammatory effects with a lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects compared to traditional NSAIDs. However, due to cardiovascular safety concerns, its use has been discontinued worldwide.
