Used primarily as a precursor in sol-gel processes for producing niobium-containing oxide materials. It enables the synthesis of thin films and coatings with applications in optical devices, such as anti-reflective or electrochromic coatings, due to niobium oxide’s high refractive index and dielectric properties. Also employed in the fabrication of catalysts and ceramic materials where controlled niobium integration is required. Its reactivity with moisture and alcohols makes it suitable for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and spin-coating techniques. Additionally, it serves in the development of ferroelectric and superconducting materials when combined with other metal alkoxides.
