Used in the treatment of ovarian cancer, particularly in patients with BRCA gene mutations. It is also prescribed for recurrent epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer after response to platinum-based chemotherapy. Functions as a PARP inhibitor, blocking DNA repair in cancer cells, leading to cell death. Employed as maintenance therapy to delay disease progression. Investigated for use in other cancers with homologous recombination deficiencies, including prostate and breast cancers. Administered orally in tablet form, allowing for outpatient treatment.
