Oxidizing salt for professional hair bleaching/lightening; powder blends; minimize dust; rinse-off, time-limited use.
Sodium Persulfate is a strong oxidizing agent used primarily in professional hair bleaching/lightening and as an oxidizing booster in some oxidative hair color systems. Not used for leave-on skincare.
In hair applications, persulfate ions generate radicals (especially under alkaline conditions and with hydrogen peroxide) that break down natural and artificial chromophores in the hair cortex, lifting color.
Product Description: Commonly used in powder bleaching/lightening blends alongside ammonium and potassium persulfate; also appears at lower levels in cream/clay lighteners and occasionally as a booster in oxidative hair color. Designed for brief, discontinuous use followed by thorough rinse.
Usage: Professional hair bleaching/lightening powders and creams; oxidative hair color booster (rinse-off, time-limited use).
Mixing method:
- Powder lighteners: Blend with other persulfates, alkalizers, carriers, and chelators. Mix with hydrogen peroxide developer just before use; maintain alkaline pH (~9–11). Avoid dust generation.
- Cream/clay formats: Incorporate within thickener/fat systems to reduce dusting and improve comfort; mix with developer immediately before application.
- Processing: Use slow mixing and local exhaust ventilation during batching/decanting; keep powders dry and closed with desiccants.
Usage rate: Powder base total persulfates up to ~60% (contextual; final on-head mixture lower after developer). Follow supplier guidance and validate in-house; rinse thoroughly after brief contact.
Product characteristics: White crystalline powder; characteristic oxidizer; moisture-sensitive.
Solubility: Limited solubility in water; decomposes/oxidizes; keep dry. Compatible with alkalizers (ammonia/MEA) and chelators (EDTA); avoid reducing agents and heavy-metal contamination.
Safety: Persulfates are skin/respiratory sensitizers; minimize dust and ensure good ventilation. For professional use only; label and handle as oxidizer per local GHS.
