Bentonite (Anti-Settling, Low Viscosity, pH 2–12) is a general-purpose rheology additive for aqueous systems that increases low-shear viscosity and yield stress to reduce sedimentation, while keeping high-shear viscosity relatively low for good flow and application.
When fully hydrated, the clay platelets form a structured network in water that helps suspend pigments/solids and improves storage stability. In cleaning liquids, the same structure can increase vertical cling time on surfaces without making the product feel overly thick during rubbing or pumping.
Designed for broad formulation compatibility, it can be used in highly acidic or highly alkaline aqueous products (pH 2–12) and remains useful in systems containing water-soluble solvents or dissolved salts—provided the material is properly dispersed and hydrated before heavy electrolyte loading.
Product Description: This grade is positioned as a universal anti-settling / low-shear thickening aid for water-based personal care and household/industrial liquids. By preferentially building low-shear structure (yield stress / thixotropic body), it helps reduce phase separation and sedimentation of insoluble solids while preserving high-shear flow behavior that matters during pouring, spraying, pumping, and application. Formulation success depends strongly on hydration quality and the ionic strength of the make-up water.
Usage: Suitable for aqueous cleaning/care products such as liquid soap, shampoo, cleanser, shower gel, and household/industrial cleaners; also useful in water-based gels or emulsions that need anti-settling support for pigments/solids.
Mixing method:
- Use low-ion water for initial hydration (around 20 ±5°C).
- Sprinkle into a water vortex while stirring to avoid clumps; then apply higher shear mixing (≥10 minutes) to fully hydrate.
- Allow 15–20 minutes maturation time before adding salts/surfactants/other components; adjust viscosity after the full formula is built.
Usage rate: 0.1–3.0%
Product characteristics: Off-white to light beige powder; essentially odorless.
Solubility: Dispersible in water and swells on hydration (not truly soluble). Compatible with water-based systems, including those containing water-soluble solvents or dissolved salts after proper hydration.
