Regulation of Energy Balance & Lipid Metabolism

In a controlled study by Wu et al., male C57BL/6 mice fed a diet containing 0.1 % adenosine 5′-monophosphate for four weeks showed significantly higher core body temperature and uncoupling protein-1 expression in brown adipose tissue, along with reduced overall adipose weight and smaller lipid droplets in white fat—evidence of enhanced thermogenesis and lipolysis (Wu Z, et al. Food Nutr Res. 2022;66:7680).

Immune Modulation & Infection Resistance

Hawkes and colleagues conducted a randomized trial in term infants comparing standard formula to formula fortified with 33.5 mg/L total nucleotides (including AMP). The supplemented group exhibited higher tetanus toxoid antibody titers at seven months, indicating improved humoral immunity from dietary nucleotides (Hawkes JS, Gibson RA, Roberton D, Makrides M. Eur J Clin Nutr. 2005;59:1071–5).

Gastrointestinal Health & Mucosal Repair

Uauy et al. showed that rats receiving diets with 0.8 % nucleosides (of which AMP is a component) had increased small-intestinal villus height and higher activities of digestive enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, maltase, sucrase, lactase), reflecting enhanced mucosal maturation and repair (Uauy R, Stringel G, Thomas R, Quan R. J Pediatr Gastroenterol Nutr. 1990;10:497–503).

Cognitive & Neurological Support

In a triple-blind trial of sedentary older adults, San-Miguel et al. found that ten weeks of daily supplementation with a monophosphate nucleotide formulation led to a 19.7 % rise in serum BDNF, a 37.7 % decrease in F₂-isoprostanes, and significant improvements in executive function measured by the Trail Making Test (San-Miguel N, et al. Nutrients. 2023;17(9):1431).

Tissue Repair & Wound Healing

Preclinical work by Montesinos et al. demonstrated that topical activation of adenosine A₂A receptors with the agonist CGS-21680 accelerated full-thickness dermal wound closure and increased microvessel formation in mice, highlighting AMP-mediated pathways in tissue repair and angiogenesis (Montesinos MC, Desai A, Chen JF, et al. Am J Pathol. 2002;160:2009–18).
