Cetyl Dimethicone (5cP, Very Light, Low Viscosity)
- Product Code: 253046
Cetyl Dimethicone (5 cP) Broad compatibility: Increases smoothness, spreadability, helps dissolve sunscreen filters, and helps disperse/enhance the effectiveness of inorganic filters.
Special grade has a very low viscosity (5 cP) compared to the general type which usually has a viscosity in the range of 200-250 cP (mpa.s.), making it light and non-sticky but still providing the same other efficiency.

Cetyl Dimethicone (5 cP) is a low viscosity (alkyl‑modified) silicone emulsion that provides smoothness, blendability and a soft feel, while also enhancing gloss and water resistance of the formula.
Special grade has a very low viscosity (5 cP) compared to the general type which usually has a viscosity in the range of 200-250 cP (mpa.s.), making it light and non-sticky but still providing the same other efficiency.
The C16 (Cetyl) side chain helps it to adhere well to the skin and pigments, reducing stickiness compared to common dimethicone. Liquid grade 5–10 cP is suitable for serums, bases/primers and makeup that requires quick spreading and a non-greasy finish.
It has broad compatibility with various silicones, hydrocarbons, esters, oils and waxes in sunscreen formulations, helping to dissolve organic filters and, when used as part of a silicone/oil phase, enhancing the efficiency of inorganic filters.
Usage: Skincare, sunscreen, and makeup (foundation, lip powder) to increase smoothness, spreadability, reduce stickiness, increase water resistance, and help dissolve/distribute sunscreen filters.
How to mix:
- Add to silicone/oil phase or add during cooldown.
- Pre-mixed with other silicones/emulsifiers to help wet the pigments and sunscreen filters.
- For inorganic filters (TiO 2 /ZnO): Replace some of the cyclopentasiloxane with this mixture and use ~6% PEG‑10 Dimethicone to aid dispersion. Manufacturer's tests show higher SPF values (table below) depending on the grade and dispersion quality.
- Hectorite/organoclay gel samples (preservative-free): PEG‑10 Dimethicone 20–30%, Cetyl Dimethicone 55–70%, Hectorite (organoclay) 5–15%, Propylene Carbonate 0.5–2%.
Usage rate: 0.5–5% (as a lubricant/emulsifier) and higher amounts can be used as a carrier or oil phase component.
Product appearance: Clear to light yellow, transparent liquid; viscosity 5–10 cP (25 °C); refractive index 1.4240 ± 0.0050 (25 °C); specific gravity 0.830 ± 0.005 (25 °C).
Solubility: Soluble in silicone and oil, insoluble in water; miscible with most volatile/non-volatile silicones.
